frequently asked questions

The #GMIDGoesVirtual event is a grassroots event and was started by a group of volunteers who wanted to put together an initiative that would unite the events industry.

The event is constantly evolving and growing as we bring on new ideas and contributors, so the details of the event are being updated daily.  Below is a list of frequently asked questions to help you plan for the event and this list will be updated as more details become available.

How long is the event?

In order to qualify for the world record, we need all participants to be online for 30 minutes.  The event is scheduled to take place from 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM EDT on April 14, 2020.  All participants are encouraged to connect to the meeting room 15 minutes prior so we can start the timer at 12:00 PM.

Is this event connected to the Meetings Mean Business event?

Once our 30 minute program is complete, Meetings Mean Business Canada will host a 60 minute panel discussion regarding COVID-19 and its impact on our communities, work and families.  Attendees are invited to stay for this portion of the event, but the timer for the world record attempt will end at 12:30 PM EDT.

The panel, including those from government, industry associations, hotels, convention centres and the planning community will discuss the meetings & events industry from their perspectives and where we go from here. For more information regarding the Meetings Mean Business Canada event, visit their website here.

How do I connect to the event?

Closer to the event, we will distribute a meeting link to all attendees to join the event.  All participants are encouraged to connect to the meeting room 15 minutes prior so we can start the timer at 12:00 PM.

What is happening to the registration data?

This event is not owned or operated by any association or organization, so the registration data is being collected only so we can provide pertinent event details. After the event, we will keep the data for verification purposes as required by the Guinness World Record. Once the application and audit process is complete, all registration data will be destroyed and not provided to anyone for marketing purposes.

Is this the same as the MPI #GMIDvirtual event?

No...and yes!

MPI is hosting an all day conference to celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) that starts at 6:00 AM CDT.

Our 30 minute record breaking attempt is part of their program so attendees of the MPI virtual seminar will be able to connect and take part in our 30 minute session.

For more information and to sign up for the MPI GMID event, visit their website here.

Are there other GMID events taking place that day?

There are a tonne of other industry events taking place on April 14 in recognition of Global Meetings Industry Day, so check with your local associations, chapters and communities for information about these events.

We are hoping that our event can be a 30 minute time frame where the entire industry comes together in a show of strength and unity, so if you are planning your own GMID event, please reach out so we can discuss ways of partnering with each other.

How can I help?

The best way you can help is by helping us to spread the word.

We need to have 15,000 people signed into the virtual meeting in order to break the world record, so we need to get our message out there.
